This project began as a typical attached deck design, planned as a large corner layout with at least 14 feet of width on one side to comfortably fit the family’s outdoor dining table. However, once we dismantled the old deck and inspected the house, we discovered there were no rim boards — only trusses — making it impossible to safely install a ledger board. To solve this, we adapted the plan and built a freestanding deck, ensuring structural integrity while matching the height of the home’s floor, eliminating the need for extra steps.
We finished the deck with Trex Coastal Bluff composite boards and sleek Westbury black matte railings with 4-inch posts, combining durability with modern style. The result is a spacious, beautifully crafted outdoor space where the family can gather, dine, and enjoy quality time together for years to come — a true backyard upgrade for their Plymouth home.
