Decks built by Minneapolis Decks, especially those constructed with maintenance-free materials, can last 25-30 years with minimal upkeep.

You can be confident in the long-lasting, high-quality results from Deck4Life. We provide the following warranties in accordance with Minnesota’s statutory requirements:

  • 2-Year Craftsmanship Warranty – Covers any defects in craftsmanship including issues such as improper installation. If you notice any problems, just give us a call, and we will fix them at no charge.
  • 10-Year Structural Warranty – Covers major structural defects that compromise the integrity and safety of your deck, including load-bearing components such as footings, beams, and support posts.

We stand by our craftsmanship and are committed to delivering durable, high-quality decks that you can enjoy for years to come!

Usually, yes. A permit is generally required when building a new deck or replacing major components such as stairs, railings, or decking. Minor repairs may not require one, depending on the scope of work and local regulations. If a permit is needed, we can obtain it for you, or you may handle it yourself. We’ll discuss the requirements and decide who will obtain the permit during the initial consultation.

We determine the cost of a deck project based on factors such as materials, size, design complexity, and any additional features.

After selecting your material, sizing, coloring, landing and other features desired for your new deck, you can expect the building process to take between 2-4 weeks. For larger projects that include porches and roofing, it can take around 4-6 weeks, depending on the weather.

Yes, we offer repair/restoration services for your old deck.

Clear the construction area of any furniture, plants, or other items.

For larger projects, we sign a contract and divide the labor cost into three payments: 30% when the contract is signed, 30% on the first day of construction, and the remaining 40% after the project is completed. The full cost of materials is collected upfront.

For smaller projects or repairs, a $200 deposit is typically required to reserve your place on our schedule. If the project requires expensive materials, the material cost may be collected upfront, with the labor balance due after the work is completed. The exact payment schedule will be clearly explained before the project begins.

We recommend booking your deck project as early as possible to secure a spot in our schedule.

We encourage you to finalize your design before construction begins. However, we understand that changes may be necessary, and we’ll do our best to accommodate them.

Yes, we provide a wide range of railing options, including traditional wood, aluminum and cable railings.

For low-maintenance composite or PVC decking, simply pressure-wash it whenever it looks dirty. We recommend cleaning it thoroughly at least once a year—ideally in early spring after the snow melts.

Wood decks require more upkeep and should generally be stained or painted every other year. The exact schedule depends on the deck’s location and exposure. Decks near lakes or in damp, shaded areas may require more frequent treatment because moisture encourages moss and mildew, while decks in drier locations may require less frequent maintenance.

If you want to keep the area beneath your deck dry and make better use of the space, we can install a RainEscape under-deck drainage system. This system collects water, directs it into gutters, and carries it safely away from the deck.

For a standard deck without an under-deck drainage system, the gaps between the deck boards allow rainwater to drain naturally through the deck and into the ground below.

We primarily work with Trex and TimberTech. Both brands offer beautiful, durable composite decking in a range of colors, styles, and prices. Entry-level composite costs slightly more than cedar but provides excellent moisture and rot resistance, minimal maintenance, and a strong long-term warranty. With options for different budgets, we can help you find a composite board that fits your project.

For a high-end deck, we recommend TimberTech Advanced PVC. These premium boards contain no wood fibers, offer exceptional durability and realistic woodgrain finishes, and are backed by a limited lifetime product warranty. Although PVC is the most expensive option, it is an excellent choice for homeowners seeking premium appearance and long-term performance.

Warranty coverage depends on the manufacturer and product line. More affordable boards typically include a 25-year limited warranty, while mid-range and premium products may offer coverage lasting 30, 35, or 50 years. Some high-end PVC collections include a limited lifetime product warranty.

Yes, we have experience working with homeowners’ associations and will adhere to their guidelines and regulations while designing and constructing your deck.

Our decks are built using high-quality materials and expert craftsmanship to ensure they can withstand the varying weather conditions experienced in the Minneapolis area.

When we build a new deck, completely rebuild an existing deck, or complete a major deck renovation—such as replacing the decking, railings, or staircase—we obtain any required permits and follow the approved plans and applicable building codes. The project goes through all required city inspections, providing independent confirmation that the work is safe, structurally sound, and code-compliant.

At Deck4life, we take pride in offering consistently high-quality decks and outstanding customer service. Out of respect for our valued customer base, we do not offer discounts or promotions. Our commitment to superior craftsmanship and materials ensures that each project we undertake is a true reflection of our expertise, providing lasting value for our clients. This unwavering dedication to quality is why we choose not to run discounts on our deck construction services.
