IPE Staircase Rebuild in Eden Prairie
Premium Staircase Reconstruction Using IPE Wood, PVC, and Existing Aluminum
This 16×16 deck project in Chanhassen began with a plan to install new footings while keeping the existing joists, since the structure looked acceptable from underneath during the initial inspection. However, once we removed the surface boards, it became clear that the joists were twisted, bent, and structurally unreliable, making it impossible to achieve the quality and stability the homeowner expected from a new deck. As we continued disassembly, we also discovered a rotted house rim board behind the ledger, requiring a full ledger board replacement and partial replacement of the rim board to restore proper structural support.
With these hidden issues addressed, the project evolved into a complete rebuild—a truly new deck built from scratch, properly supported with new code-compliant footings, a fresh pressure-treated frame, and a fully re-flashed ledger connection. The deck was then finished with Trex composite decking and Westbury aluminum railings, delivering a clean, durable, low-maintenance outdoor space that will serve the homeowners beautifully for years. This project highlights how deeper structural problems often appear only after teardown, and why rebuilding the right way ensures long-term safety and performance.
