Unexpected Memories on the Job

One of the unexpected joys of working at different homes is discovering little things that remind me of my childhood.
At one of my recent projects, I found a mulberry tree full of ripe fruit. The homeowner told me that they don’t really eat them, which surprised me. Growing up in Ukraine, my grandmother had a huge mulberry tree behind her house, and every summer my friends and I would spend hours eating those sweet berries. Seeing this tree instantly brought back those memories.
Of course, I had to try one—and it tasted just as good as I remembered.
I’ve also noticed something interesting since moving to Minnesota. There don’t seem to be many fruit trees growing in residential neighborhoods. Maybe there’s a good reason for that, but it definitely caught my attention.
Another thing I’ve noticed is the lack of bees. Right now many trees and flowers are in bloom, yet I rarely see bees around. As someone who enjoys nature, that concerns me a little. Bees play such an important role in our environment.
Have you noticed the same thing where you live? And if you have a mulberry tree in your yard, don’t let those delicious berries go to waste!
